FAQs
What exactly do you do, Arti?
Research and writing, primarily for Kansas and Missouri attorneys, is all I do. I conduct on-line case and statute research on a particular topic all the way to writing a pleading which needs legal argument to writing appellate briefs, docketing statements and other supporting documents. Some of my attorneys only want a memo; others want a particular pleading only; others want me in the background from start to finish or just on the appeal. You decide how involved I will be!
Why should I use you instead of a law clerk or paralegal?
While I am not in active practice now, I was a practicing attorney for ten years in Kansas and Missouri. I have an attorney's experience, education, training and law license. As such, I simply know more than a clerk or paralegal, and can think like you instead of doing only what you asked.
I perform the research and writing services you need more rapidly, without the mentoring and guidance you must give a clerk or paralegal. All of my work is subject to your review as yours is the name on the pleading.
You can bill your client for my services at your own hourly rate if you like, but you cannot with a law clerk or paralegal. A law clerk or paralegal costs you money; I help you make money. I have accumulated a large body of pleadings and research since 2006, so am very skilled and fast at what I do.
Can you research in states other than Kansas or Missouri?
Yes. The research data base I use has statutes and case law for federal research and 34 other states. Chances are if you need a case from another state or federal court , I can find it.
How do we get started?
Give me the salient facts, the issue or outcome you hope the research will show. If the law is against your client, I will search for any argument to make to persuade the court to your client's favor.
If you want documents drafted, I can review your file in your office (if in the Kansas City area) or at mine; you can e-mail me the needed documents or information, depending on your deadline. Whatever way works to serve your time deadline is what I'll do.
I need to look at the appropriate facts and circumstances to support what I prepare and to see how you like documents to look from your office. For a pleading, I will use your style of document format. I always work to give you a document in a ready-to-file or e-file form.
What if I need or want revisions? Do you charge for those?
I don't charge to make minor revisions. Simply e-mail your comments to me and I'll make the changes. If the revisions are major and not due to my errors or omissions, I do charge to make the changes. I will do whatever is right to make the document as good as it can be, in your opinion.es.
Do you need a retainer?
No. I will submit a bill with my finished work and you pay me then. If you are concerned about the costs, you can request I spend a pre-determined of hours on the project, and then authorize further time, if you decide it is necessary based on what I have so far.
Will my client hear from you?
No. I am "invisible" unless you choose to make them aware that I am working on their cases. I am no "competition" to you, for clients. For example, I answer and accumulate documents for discovery responses, which most of you find tedious, time-consuming and boring. I will go through your file and answer all I can, then list information and documents the clients still need to provide. When the responses are in final form, you will then review them, which is much less onerous for you.
